From Hearing…To Seeing
"Don't stop at hearing about God...stay until you see God." In this powerful message, we explore the revelation of God in the suffering of Job.
Message Notes
“While he [was] yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.”
Don’t stop at hearing about God — stay until you see Him.
Job Worshiped Through Wreckage
“And there was a day...”
In one day, Job lost his wealth, servants, children, and health.
This wasn’t a slow unraveling — it was one tragic moment after another.
Satan caused it, but Job never knew that.
All he heard was: "The fire of God fell."
Job tore his robe, shaved his head, and still said:
“Blessed be the name of the Lord.”
Sometimes all you have left is worship. And that’s enough.
2. Job Waited Through Silence
“Wherefore hidest thou thy face, and holdest me for thine enemy?”
Job praised — but God stayed silent.
For 35 chapters, God says nothing.
And in that silence, Job hears about God — but only from his friends.
Eliphaz, Bildad, Zophar, Elihu — they all speak on behalf of God, but none of them actually hear from Him.
They assume Job must’ve sinned. Job insists he didn’t.
He doesn’t want his stuff back. He just wants God to speak.
God may be silent, but God’s silence is not God’s absence.
3. Job Moved From Hearing to Seeing
“I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth thee.”
Finally, in chapter 38, God speaks.
Not to explain — but to reveal His presence.
God never tells Job this was Satan’s doing.
Instead, God reveals His majesty to Job: “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?”
And now, Job says: "Now I see You."
Our turning point is when the goal is no longer to have all the explanations…it’s to have an encounter.
Response
Maybe you’re in the middle of your own "there was a day" moment.
You’ve lost something.
You’re sitting in silence.
You’ve heard all the sermons — but what you really need is a fresh glimpse of God.
Keep showing up. Keep waiting.
Because what starts in pain can still end in revelation.
Don’t stop at hearing about God…stay in spite of the suffering until you see God.
