The Evidence of Faith

"We are not the people who live by sight, we're the people who live by faith — and faith always leaves evidence." In this message, we are instructed on what to do when we don't understand God's ways.

Message Notes

Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.
— Habakkuk 2:4

Some things are seasonal. But some things should remain within us permanently.

  1. When Life Doesn’t Make Sense

O LORD, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear!
— Habakkuk 1:2–4
  • Habakkuk looked around and saw injustice, violence, and corruption.

  • He cried out, “God, where are You in all of this?”

  • Like Habakkuk, we often can’t reconcile what we believe about God with what we see in the world.

When life doesn’t make sense, God is still sovereign.

2. The Just Shall Live by Faith

Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.
— Habakkuk 2:4
  • The proud trust their own strength; the righteous trust in God’s hand.

  • Faith doesn’t ignore the Babylonians—it looks them in the eye and says, “You’re not in charge here—my God is.”

  • Living by faith means we stop trying to control the outcome and start trusting the One who holds it.

Faith is not pretending everything’s fine—it’s choosing to trust God when it’s not.

3. Rejoicing Is the Evidence

Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.
— Habakkuk 3:18
  • The fig tree may not blossom. The fields may be empty. The herds may be gone.

  • Yet faith rejoices—not because of circumstances, but because of who God is.

  • Rejoicing in the storm is the evidence of real faith.

The evidence of faith isn’t found in comfort—it’s found in praise that rises from the rubble.

Response

  • Don’t wait for things to get better before you worship—rejoice now.

  • Let go of control and rest in the God who still reigns over chaos.

  • Your joy is a testimony that God is still good, even when life isn’t.
